OpenAI's Image Generation Tool Now Accessible to All Users
OpenAI has made its new image generation tool, powered by the GPT-40 model, available to all users, according to CEO Sam Altman's announcement on X. Previously, this feature was limited to ChatGPT's paying subscribers.

While details on the exact number of images free tier users can generate remain unclear, Altman had previously suggested a daily limit of three images.

The image generation tool experienced a surge in popularity immediately following its launch. Altman noted that the demand was so significant that the company's GPUs were “melting.”
The tool also quickly became known for its use in transforming images to resemble the style of Studio Ghibli, the Japanese animation studio. This particular use raised concerns about potential copyright issues and the training data employed by OpenAI, given the stylistic similarities.
Additionally, some individuals utilized the tool to create fraudulent receipts, such as fake restaurant bills.
In response, an OpenAI spokesperson informed TechCrunch that all images generated by ChatGPT include metadata indicating their origin. The company also stated that it takes action when images violate its guidelines.
In related news, OpenAI announced on Monday that it had secured $40 billion in funding led by SoftBank, valuing the company at $300 billion. The company also revealed that ChatGPT has reached 500 million weekly active users and 700 million monthly active users. Sources and related content
